Songwriter Christopher J. Watkins Prepares Debut Solo Album MOMENTS

Houston, TX —  Christopher J. Watkins is one of Gospel music’s most noted composers, artists, and music directors. His anointed pen has yielded many heartfelt songs, including “Because of the Blood,” “God Is Truly Amazing,” and “No One Like You.”  These popular compositions have been recorded on albums by Stellar Award and Grammy-nominated artists Ricky Dillard, The Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship Super Mass Choir, Bishop Eddie Long and the New Birth Total Praise Choir, and are ministered in churches nationwide on Sundays.

Christopher and his best friend Kyle Kelley founded the highly successful St. Louis, MO-based choir Chris and Kyle with True Spirit. Their sophomore release, HEAL ME (True Heart/Emtro Gospel), debuted at #22 on the Billboard Gospel Charts. The album boasted the hit single “No One Like You,” featuring Dr. Judith McAllister.

Christopher’s journey in Gospel music continues to evolve as he prepares for his highly anticipated debut solo album, MOMENTS. As a prelude to the album, his first Gospel single, “Coming My Way,” featuring Jason Clayborn, is available now on all digital outlets and Gospel radio stations nationwide.  Set to release this fall, MOMENTS will also feature Sheri Jones-Moffett, Antwuan Cooks, Yolanda “Yoli” DeBerry, and production and songwriting collaborations with Christopher’s extraordinarily talented son, C.J. Watkins.

Christopher is the Director of Worship and Arts at the New Faith Church in Houston, TX. He is also Co-Director of the Performance Division and the newly elected 1st Vice President of the National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses (NCGCC/The Dorsey Convention).  Founded by Dr. Thomas A. Dorsey in 1933, the NCGCC’s mission is to preserve, promote, and advance Gospel music, celebrating its significant cultural and musical heritage, a mission Christopher wholeheartedly accepts and supports.

Christopher will also make history as one of the first inductees into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame Missouri.  The inaugural induction ceremony will be September 7th at The Royal Sonesta Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis, MO.

Christopher’s forthcoming album is a collection of his most consecrated Gospel and worship songs and anthems intended to fully engage listeners in God-filled moments.  His ingeniously crafted music accompanying his theologically sound lyrics exalts Christ and will provide long-lasting musical moments for the soul and spirit.
